Yea Cup races to start early

EXCLUSIVE

Extreme heat of over 40°C is predicted for this Saturday, January 27 with the commencement of race one of the Rodwells Yea Cup Day  moved forward to 11:40am, Yea Racing Club President Dennis Smith today told Kinglake Ranges News.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) have predicted temperatures for the North Central forecast district of between 36°C to 41°C which could see races cancelled or postponed for the safety and well being of jockeys and horses.

By starting earlier this is “less likely to occur,” Smith said.

A great day of racing (six races) and Fashions on the Field competition are still scheduled to take place with the first race now at 11:40am and last race (six) scheduled for 2:40pm in an attempt to beat the extreme heat.

Basic admission starts at $15. Further admission and ticketing information can be found by clicking here.

A free shuttle bus service from Yea to the racetrack will operate between all Yea hotel/motels and the caravan park with pick-ups every half hour.
