“Lakies Lair” Research vs Kinglake 1979

Kinglake Ranges News archives.
Kinglake football match report for Round 1, Saturday, April 21, 1979.

Not a good start for the season and I don’t mean supporters – they came for a good “kick off.”

Still not enough players to form two sides. We cannot expect players to play two games each week while other players who have not trained or played this yet this season stand by on the fence and watch.

Enough of the gripes and down to the good news. Some really pleasing performances from Anthony and Pat Exton, Neil Owen not to mention the goal kicking by Barry May was excellent stuff. Steve “Deblake” joined the fraternity with another solid game.

After a slow start we came back in the second quarter to be only three goals down at half time which was a good morale booster for both players and supporters.

Scratching for numbers, the Reserves deserve a pat on the back. Thanks to the Under 17 boys and a few of the Seniors who played in this game to make up the numbers. Ivan Johnston, W. Sandford and I. Jacobs were among the best players.

The Under 17s went under but gave the searchers a good run for their money. There is a good new look about these boys.

Congratulations Neil Owen -back for your 18th season- hope it’s a good one for you and also your new Under 12 side.

Thanks to all the Research players and supporters for joining us for a drink and chat after the game.

Signed “Full” Back.
