Another day. Another Telstra fail.

Yet again a Telstra outage is affecting electronic payments at retailers as well as banking services Australia-wide.

UPDATE. 5.51pm: Telstra report that services are now being restored and will “provide another update when we [Telstra] know more.”

“We [Telstra] are currently investigating an issue affecting services, including EFTPOS and access to ATMS, for a number of enterprise customers nationally,” a spokesperson told ABC News.

All major banks, Australia Post and retailers including Woolworths and Coles have been affected by the outage.

The supermarket giant says a Telstra network issue means its stores are having to process payments manually.

  • A Telstra outage has affected EFT and other electronic banking systems Australia wide;
  • EFT transactions are taking place manually in many instances, with consumers unaware they may need to show a Driver’s Licence or other form of ID to confirm their identity;
  • Telstra has confirmed it is a national problem that they are working to fix.

“We’re working closely with Telstra to rectify the network issue as quickly as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank our customers for their patience,” a Woolworths spokesperson said.

Service station chain Caltex has tweeted that its EFTPOS payments are also affected.

The Commonwealth Bank has confirmed that an issue with one of its telco providers has affected ATMs, EFTPOS, some in-branch services and CommSec log-in.

Westpac said it was aware that some branches, ATMs and services in the Sydney metro region were not working because of a broader network failure in the region.

NAB confirmed it was also experiencing technical issues with some of its electronic payments services.

ANZ also confirmed via its official Twitter account that many customers were experiencing problems using EFTPOS, according to ABC News.

Telstra confirmed to Kinglake Ranges News that it is working to rectify the problem[s] and should know more after 5.30pm.

More to come.
