Police investigate man watching pornography on South Morang train

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating an indecent assault on the South Morang train line in July.

Investigators have been told a 20-year old female from Reservoir was on a city-bound train at, or around, Bell Railway Station at approximately 3.16pm on Saturday, 7 July of this year.

The female was seated against the window of the carriage when an unknown male approached her where he stood and hovered for a short time.

The man sat next to the female and leant against her with his elbow pressing against her arm.

He placed his mobile phone on his lap with the screen facing upwards and proceeded to play pornography for approximately five minutes.

The female could see the male’s eyes shifting to her and back to the screen a number of times.

The man disembarked at the Northcote Railway Station.

He is described as being of Indian Sub-Continental appearance with black, wavy, short hair. He was wearing a large, dark-coloured jacket, navy cargo pants and trainers. He was also carrying a black satchel.

Detectives have released a CCTV still image (above) of a man they believe can assist with their enquiries.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
