Minister for Aged Care and Indigenous Health, Ken Wyatt thanked organisations and community members who showed the solid work being done by aged care practitioners, educators, and indigenous communities in the Indi electorate.
Minister Wyatt thanked the Albury-Wodonga Aboriginal Health Service; La Trobe University and the John Richards initiative; St Catherine’s Hostel; Wodonga Aboriginal Network; Dirrawarra Indigenous Network; NESAY and Gotafe students; Proud and Deadly Awards winners and the Burraja Cultural Centre for their efforts in the aged care field.
The John Richards Initiative at La Trobe University has run for ten years as the only interdisciplinary rural/regional aged care research facility in Australia.
It’s an outstanding example of the power of local philanthropy in regional communities from John Richards and La Trobe University.
Minister Wyatt said he is keen to explore a government partnership with La Trobe University regarding the future of regional aged care.
Minister Wyatt was impressed with the quality of care residents at St Catherine’s receive from Nurse Practitioner Steven Voogt, with more demand for nurse practitioners in regional aged care expected to grow rapidly as the ‘baby boomer’ generation age.
