Nillumbik launch ‘Active Path’ program

Nillumbik Mayor Karen Egan has joined students and teachers from Our Lady Help of Christians Primary School in Eltham to launch the school’s new Active Path program.

With eight in ten primary school students travelling to school by car, the Active Path encourages students to be active by walking, riding or scooting to school instead. The path features footpath decals to assist students on their journey by providing directions, estimated travel times and education about road safety.

At the launch event on Friday, Cr Karen Egan walked to school with students and said that Council was proud to support an active and connected community.

“The Active Path makes it easier and safer for students to get out in to the fresh air, spend time with friends and arrive at school focused and ready to learn. This wonderful initiative will also reduce traffic congestion outside the school during busy times,” Cr Egan said.

“We look forward to working with Bicycle Victoria and VicHealth to install more Active Paths around Nillumbik in the future. Congratulations to the students and staff at Our Lady Help of Christians for taking on this very worthwhile and exciting project.”
