Man dies in Altona fire

Police are investigating a fatal fire in Romawi Street, Altona about 3:30am.

Police are investigating a fatal fire in Romawi Street, Altona about 3:30am.

Firefighters arrived and wearing breathing apparatus, immediately forced entry into the unit.

A yet-to-be-identified man was quickly located and removed before paramedics commenced CPR.

The fire was declared under control at 3:43am, and firefighters contained the fire to the lounge and dining area.

Firefighters remained on scene until the fire had been completely extinguished.

At the height of the fire, there were five firefighting appliances on the scene including a rescue unit, in addition to two other units.

Circumstances surrounding the fire are yet to be determined. An arson chemist will attend to examine the scene.
