Lalor man arrested at checkpoint

A Lalor man in a stolen car has been arrested while attempting to evade a checkpoint in Reservoir this morning.

Police were patrolling in Thomastown when they observed an allegedly stolen grey Subaru bearing no plates travelling at 160km/h on Edgars Road about 2am.

Officers followed the car towards Reservoir but lost sight of the stolen car as the driver had no headlights on.

Shortly after, the driver encountered a vehicle checkpoint on Mahoneys Road and allegedly attempted to perform a U-turn but became stuck on a median strip.

Officers approached the car and arrested a 34-year-old man who was then transported to hospital under police guard.

The Lalor man is expected to be charged with theft of a motor vehicle, theft from motor vehicle and reckless conduct endangering life.
