Driver evades police and crashes into ditch in Don Valley

Two people have been arrested after a man allegedly evaded police at high speeds in Melbourne’s outer east this morning.

Police were patrolling on the Maroondah Highway in Lilydale when they observed a red Honda sedan allegedly travelling at high speeds about 2am.

Officers attempted to intercept the car but the driver evaded police and continued towards Coldstream before allegedly speeding through a checkpoint at 100km/h.

With Air Wing assistance, officers on ground sighted the car in Don Valley at the intersection of Don Road and Old Don Road.

Police attempted to intercept the car, but the driver attempted to evade and performed a U-turn before allegedly colliding with the police vehicle.

The Honda continued a short distance and crashed into a nearby ditch before both occupants were arrested.

No one was injured during the incident.

A 26-year-old Wantirna man has been charged with conduct endangering serious injury, indictable evade police and drive speed dangerous and was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

A 28-year-old Wantirna woman was released without charge.
