Dangerous drivers held to account in outer suburbs

Outer northern suburbs police from Hume district have made several arrests and issued multiple infringement notices in December as a part of Operation Fireant.

Police made nine arrests and issued 36 penalty notices as part of the operation.

The operation ran for two nights from Friday 4 December to Sunday 6 December in the Broadmeadows, Craigieburn and Sunbury areas.

The nine people arrested have been charged with a range of offences, including:

• Failing to stop on police direction;

• Drug possession;

• Disqualified driving;

• Speeding;

• Careless driving; and 

• Bail related offences;

The joint operation involved Hume Crime Investigation Unit detectives, Air Wing, Dog Squad, Fawkner Highway Patrol, Taskforce Sandstone and uniform police. The investigation targeted both criminal and traffic offences in an effort to reduce road trauma.

One offender’s vehicle was impounded, and a quantity of drugs were seized.

Penalty notices were issued for traffic offences including exceeding the speed limit by 35km/h, unlicensed driving and driving an unregistered vehicle.
