50yo Mernda drink driver’s car impounded on Christmas Day at 0.279 BAC

Whittlesea police yesterday (Christmas Day, 25 December) caught a 50-year-old Mernda man where he returned a BAC 0.279 per cent. His car was impounded for 30 days.

Police randomly intercepted his vehicle on Masons Road about midday and they returned a positive preliminary breath test.

The driver was then taken to a local police station where he returned a BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) of 0.279 per cent.

His licence was suspended immediately. He is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving.

Operation Roadwise will run from 14 December to 6 January and will focus on enforcement and improving driver behaviour.

Police will be out in force to target the five leading causes of death and serious injury on our roads – speed, impairment, distraction, not wearing seatbelts and fatigue.
