CARLTON, VIC. — Homicide Squad detectives have this morning arrested a 16-year-old boy following a fatal stabbing in Ascot Vale on Sunday afternoon.

The Moonee Ponds boy was arrested in Carlton around 10.45am with Fugitive Squad assistance.

The teenager was conveyed to the hospital under police guard to be treated for an existing injury to his hand.  He will then be interviewed by investigators.

An 18-year-old man of no fixed place of address was charged on Monday with intentionally causing injury, affray, escape custody and theft.

He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, December 18.

The charges follow an incident where emergency services were called to reports of a man found with stab wounds on Maribyrnong and Union roads about 3.45pm on Sunday, December 7.

A 40-year-old man from Ascot Vale was conveyed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

Detectives are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident.
